Negative Potential
All Ereada® mats generate negative ions when warmed — either by the heating system or by your own body heat. Negative ions come from the crushed gemstones and special anion layers inside the mat. When you lie on the mat, ions are released near the surface and interact closely with the skin.
A key advantage of Ereada® Brown Amethyst and Gemstone mats is the Negative Potential (NP) system (similar in concept to Richway’s EDNI feature). This technology is sometimes described as a “high-potential electrostatic” function.
Unlike some mats that use negative-potential systems only when heat is OFF, Ereada® mats allow NP to be used together with gentle warming (typically low settings, around Levels 1–3 / 30–50°C).
You can activate NP by pressing the ION or NP button. Since 2017, our Brown and Gemstone Mini mats equipped with the Q2000NP controller have included this feature.
When NP is active, the controller directs a controlled HVDC (high-voltage direct current) signal into a special silver-fiber mesh. This creates a wide, gentle electrostatic field (approximately –600 V) across the mat surface. Although the voltage sounds high, there is no measurable current passing through the body, which is why the system is designed to be safe when used as directed.
This type of negative-potential environment works differently from standard air ionizers. Instead of concentrating ions in a single stream of air, the NP system creates a field across the mat surface so the entire body is surrounded by negatively charged potential while resting.
NP sessions run automatically:
- standard mats: about 1 hour per session
- Mini models: auto shut-off after about 30 minutes
The function can be used with little or no heat. For comfort, we recommend mild temperature levels (about 30–45°C) to avoid overstimulation.
This technology has been used for many years in various relaxation-oriented wellness devices and is valued for its calming effect when used appropriately. Many users report feeling refreshed and relaxed after NP sessions, especially when combined with gentle FIR warmth and gemstones.
